Belnet, who manages the BNIX platform, has implemented a plan in response to the outbreak of the corona virus in our country. In this way we wish to guarantee the continuity of our service and protect our employees.

Change freeze

We are currently putting all changes planned to the BNIX platform on hold. Only extremely essential and urgent changes to the platform shall be carried out. The “freeze” will remain in force for as long as Belnet considers appropriate.

Sufficient stock of network equipment

We have also analysed the potential impact on the delivery of our network equipment given that most of the components are produced in China.

At the moment we have no critical orders outstanding. We have our own stock of network equipment and can also call on our suppliers (in Belgium) to cover a longer period. They are keeping us regularly informed of the evolution of their stock and the availability of their employees.

Capacity of the BNIX platform

The large-scale switch to home working has a major impact on the data traffic that passes through the BNIX platform.

Traffic on the Belnet network as well as on the networks of the major commercial internet providers is increasing rapidly. Since the BNIX platform plays a central role in the national exchange of traffic, we already see large peaks in data traffic on the Belgian internet exchange.

Belnet has verified the capacity on the BNIX platform and after analysis it appears that these connections can handle a large increase in traffic without difficulty.

BNIX Service Desk remains reachable

Our BNIX Service Desk remains available by email (servicedesk@bnix.net) and by phone (02 790 33 01).

In the event of an incident, you can contact as usual our BNIX Service Desk 24/7 by telephone.

Most of our employees are working from home

Belnet has developed an adapted HR plan in order to guarantee the health and safety of its employees. We are encouraging our colleagues to work from home as much as possible.

Meetings are held by conference / videocall if possible. These measures have no impact on our services.

We remain alert and are closely monitoring government reports and guidelines.
