The heart of the Belgian Internet celebrates 25th anniversary

This month, BNIX (Belgian National Internet eXchange) celebrates its 25th anniversary. BNIX was set up in 1995 by Belnet, the Belgian research and higher education network. At the time - as the Internet was slowly emerging - BNIX started with six participants and one Point of Presence. 25 years later, 58 participants are connected to the platform and BNIX has three Points of Presence (Interxion in Zaventem, LCL in Diegem and CenturyLink in Evere).

Belnet is the Belgian research network for higher education, research and public services. It has set up and manages the BNIX, the Belgian National Internet eXchange, since 1995.

The European Internet Exchange Association (Euro-IX) gathers 73 IXPs from around the world. It was formed in May 2001 with the intention to develop, strengthen and improve the Internet Exchange Point (IXP) community.
