Multicast

Efficient use of bandwidth

Multicast is the simultaneous transmission of information to multiple destinations. Unlike unicast, no separate data stream is set up for each user. In multicast, each IP packet is sent once and only duplicated if that is really necessary for it to reach the final destination. This is how multicast minimises the use of network capacity. This is especially important for applications which require high bandwidth, such as real-time audio or video streaming. Additional protocols are required for multicast.

Available on demand

You can apply for an Ethernet/Fast Ethernet multicast port on the BNIX multicast VLAN at no extra cost. Please contact the BNIX team for further information.
